About Tuned Search

A search builder that lives in your toolbar.

Tuned Search started from a small, familiar frustration: typing the same request four times with slightly different wording, because a broad search returns broad results. The answer is usually one precise query away, but building that query by hand means remembering operators and punctuation most people would rather not memorize.

What it does

Tuned Search puts a complete search builder in your toolbar. Instead of one long box, you get a small set of focused filter cards. It opens with four: keywords, an exact phrase, words to exclude, and a single site to search. Four more filters, for matching any of several choices, a file type, the page title, or the web address, are a single switch away in Settings. You type into the cards you care about and leave the rest empty. When you press Search, your entries are combined into one carefully built query and sent to the web.

Nothing happens that you did not ask for

Every query is shown to you in full before it runs. The exact text appears above the Search button, so an operator that contributes nothing is visible rather than silent, and there are no surprises about what actually gets searched.

Who it is for

Built to stay out of your way

You can reorder cards by dragging them or with the arrow keys, show or hide filters to keep the popup as compact as you like, and choose whether results open in a new tab or replace the page you are on. Your settings and entries are saved on your own computer so the popup is ready the next time you open it, and a single switch turns that off if you would rather it remembered nothing.
