Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before and after installing.

It gives you a set of filter cards in a toolbar popup. You fill in the ones that matter, such as an exact phrase, a site, or a file type, and Tuned Search folds them into one precise query and sends it to the web. You never have to remember search operators yourself.
No. Type into only the cards you care about and leave the rest empty. Empty cards contribute nothing to the query.
Tuned Search opens with four cards: Keywords, Exact phrase, Exclude, and Site or domain. Four more are switched off by default so the popup stays short, and you can turn them on in Settings: Any of these, File type, In the page title, and In the URL. All eight work the same way.
Yes. The exact query appears above the Search button as a live preview, so you always know precisely what will be searched. An operator that contributes nothing shows up rather than failing silently.
Drag any card by its handle to move your most-used filters to the top, or focus the handle and use the up and down arrow keys. In Settings you can turn individual cards off entirely so the popup stays compact, and hidden cards return to their original place when you switch them back on.
Your choice. A switch in Settings lets you open results in a new tab or replace the page you are on.
Your filter settings and entries are saved in Firefox on your computer so the popup is ready next time. Submitted queries go to the Tuned Search search service. The extension also sends technical and attribution details used to run and understand the product. See the Privacy Policy for the full list and timing.
Yes. A single "clear on close" switch in Settings turns that off, so the popup opens blank every time. Your card order, hidden cards, and preferences still persist.
